Do you know that Pula was the main naval Austro-Hungarian port? During that period Uljanik shipyard was built, there were more than 100 ships anchored in the harbour and about 50 mighty fortresses and more than 300 artillery-gun emplacements guarded the city. Experience the part of Pula’s fortification turbulent history, the biggest and the strongest in Mediterranean in it’s time, accompanied by an expert guide. The tour includes visit to Grosso, Valmaggiore, Zonchi and Punta Cristo fortress in a military truck, walk through pine-tree wood, a military meal served in original military dishes, professional guide and transfer, everything lasting about 3.5 hours.

he tour starts from Karolina parking with a drive to the Grosso fortress in Štinjan in a military truck, during which the tour guide introduces the guests with Pula’s history before the Austrian time and with the beginning of its history as a naval port. The Grosso fortress is built on the ruins of a Histrian castle and its building had four phases lasting from 1836. to 1914. Beside sightseeing of Grosso fortress and Grosso howitzer battery the tour guide will present photographs, maps, plans and other documents. Then we take a 15 minute walk through pine-tree wood to visit a coastal fortress Valmaggiore built in 1886. After the sightseeing of Valmaggiore we’ll take a 5 minute walk to Zonchi cove where the truck is waiting to take us to Punta Cristo fortress. After the sightseeing of Punta Cristo, which was built in five phases between 1836. and 1914. and was the biggest and strongest fortress of all K.u.K. artillery fortresses, we will have lunch/dinner and then you will have free time to walk around the fortress on your own (unguided and at your own risk). The return from Punta Cristo is scheduled 3.5 hours after departure from Karolina parking.
